Slumdog Millioniare opening night in Mumbai

India's film industry basked in the Oscar glow of the 10 nominations for Slumdog Millionaire as the rags-to-riches story finally hit theaters to rave reviews .

The movie got the second highest number of Oscar nominations, including best director for Danny Boyle, best picture and three music nominations for composer A.R. Rahman

The gritty movie features prostitution, religious violence and maimed beggars, however, and has sparked great debate over whether the film is a blow to India's international reputation

Despite having a British director, producer, writer and studio, India has claimed the film as its own because of its Indian cast, crew and location

A parade of Bollywood stars attending the premiere in Mumbai rejoiced that the celebrated songwriter was earning international accolades
Rahman "His music transcends,". "It's like listening to Beethoven"

The film was also nominated for best adapted screenplay, cinematography, sound mixing, sound editing and film editing
